Roulette Neighbours Strategy
The neighbours bet covers a selected number and its physical neighbours on the wheel - typically 5 numbers. A French/European call bet that translates to 5 straight-up stakes.
How the neighbours bet works
You choose a number and ask the dealer for 'neighbours of X by 2'. This places 5 separate straight-up bets: X plus the 2 numbers on each side on the physical wheel layout.
Total stake: 5 units. Each bet pays 35:1 if its number hits.
Example: neighbours of 17 by 2 on European covers 6, 34, 17, 25, 2.
Probability and EV
Hit probability: 5/37 = 13.51% on European. Net per hit: +31 units (35 won, 4 stakes lost). Net per miss: −5 units.
Expected value: (5/37 × +31) + (32/37 × −5) = (155 − 160) / 37 = −0.135 units = −2.70% of total stake.
Wheel-section coverage
Neighbours bets target physical wheel sectors, not layout sectors. The 5 numbers are physically adjacent on the wheel, not on the betting layout.
This appeals to wheel-clocking and dealer-signature theories - the idea that a particular dealer might land balls in a particular sector. In modern casinos, dealer signature is rare enough to be ignored statistically.
Strategy implications
Neighbours is just 5 simultaneous straight-up bets. The same math applies as any inside bet. Variance is high. Hit frequency is low. Expected loss is 2.70%.
