Online roulette uses a software RNG (random number generator) instead of a physical wheel. The math is identical, the pace is faster, the bankroll burns quicker if you let it.
What changes vs physical roulette
- RNG instead of physical wheel. Licensed online casinos use audited RNGs that produce uniform pocket distribution. House edge is identical to physical: 2.70% European, 5.26% American.
- Speed. Online roulette runs 60-120 spins per hour vs ~30 on a physical table. Total wagered grows faster, expected loss grows proportionally.
- Variants. Online lobbies offer more variants (multi-wheel, multi-ball, mini-roulette) - many have inflated house edges. Stick to standard European or French.
Strategy implications
Every system that works on physical roulette behaves the same way online - but faster. A 200-spin Martingale session that takes 6 hours at a table takes 2 hours online. Bankroll lasts proportionally less time.
Adjust: smaller base bets, shorter session times, the same systems.
Bonus and rollover
Online roulette is often excluded or only partially counted toward bonus rollover. Read terms before assuming a roulette strategy interacts with a bonus the way you expect.
Some sites set roulette to 10-20% rollover contribution, meaning $100 wagered counts as $10-$20 toward rollover. That changes the math significantly.

How to test for online play
Run the Roulette Strategy Tester on European at the spin count you would actually play. If you do 500 spins per session online, test 500-spin simulations - not 100. The longer the session, the closer your real results will land to expected loss.
